Die Zukunft der Tradition - oder: Was glaubt eigentlich Kirche?

Die Gegenwart der protestantischen Kirchen ist geprägt von Transformationsprozessen auf allen Ebenen. Gesellschaftliche Entwicklungen, Mitgliederschwund und schwindende Finanzmittel rufen nach Veränderungen. Dass diese immer notwendig sind, wussten zwar schon die Reformatoren und prägten dafür die Formel ecclesia semper reformanda. Jedoch scheint der heute vorherrschende Fokus auf Strukturen, Finanzen, Regionalisierungsprozesse usw. oft wichtiger als die Inhalte.

Allerdings ist mit den Transformationsprozessen auch die Frage nach dem Wesen, dem Kern und der Mitte der Kirche gestellt. Was ist es, das die Kirche zur Kirche macht?

Die protestantischen Kirchen besitzen einen reichen Schatz an teils jahrhundertealten Traditionen. Lange galten Kirchenlieder aus dem 17. Jahrhundert, liturgische Formulare aus der Reformationszeit und Gebete aus dem Mittelalter genauso wie Bibel und Bekenntnistexte als unverzichtbar. In Zeiten des Traditionsabbruchs ist aber mehr denn je nach der Zukunft der Traditionen zu fragen. Welche Rolle spielen sie in der Kirche der Gegenwart und Zukunft – sollen sie darin überhaupt eine Rolle spielen? Welche Traditionen sind zu erhalten? Wie sind sie im Spannungsfeld von Traditionspflege und Traditionalismus zu entwickeln, damit die protestantischen Kirchen und Gottesdienste nicht zum Museum werden und trotzdem ihre Mitte nicht verlieren? Und was verhindert vielleicht nur einen zeitgemäßen Zugang zum Evangelium?

Die Tagung macht sich auf die Suche danach, was Kirche ausmacht und wie inhaltliche Aspekte wie Glaube und Tradition neben den (notwendigen) strukturellen und formalen Aspekten mehr Gewicht in kirchlichen Reformprozessen bekommen können. Sie richtet sich insbesondere auch an alle ehrenamtlich in der Kirche Engagierten, die an verschiedenen Orten nach der Zukunft der Kirche fragen.
